Imagine Hozier, Lana Del Rey & Maggie Rogers had a music baby: Maggie's free spirited authenticity, with the dark pop cinematic lustre of Lana, and some sexy, blues-y, Hozier-esque undertones. Hi, I'm Rachel King, nice to meet you.
My initials spell out REK if you were wondering what all that “REK ME” business is about. Plus I’ve always been a little bit of a wreck… My formal little bio is below, but I wanted to say hey, what’s up, hello more candidly. I’ve got a blog now. I’ll be posting playlists, singing vids, nerding out on music, hanging bad dates out to dry, and mainly just rambling about life and love and social equality for all.
Hope you check it out!
PS: sign up for the email list and I’ll send you an exclusive demo only for subscribers ;) Love you, mean it!
Rachel King is a new Indie Folk singer-songwriter from Long Beach, CA, but completely in love with NYC. Sick of living within the 'blonde box' society at large has tried to keep her in, Rachel decided to start writing her own music & tell her own story; a story about a strong, honest, independent woman. King enters the indie music scene after enjoying a successful career as a musical theatre performer. Her theatre career has brought her to renowned stages such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, 54 Below, Joe’s Pub, Tokyo Disney & The MUNY. Now with each new release she proves she is no longer a recovering ingenue, but a full fledged indie rock artist ready to ditch the script and make her true voice known. She has self-produced four music videos for her original work and released her first EP in October 2019. King is currently studying Music Business at Berklee College of Music.
January 2019 introduced us to “Dollhouse”, a new genre-bending, female-empowering single from Rachel King that is both personally & politically charged. The first verse sheds light on King’s own experience getting out of a very toxic marriage with an emotionally abusive man. The second verse expands into the global misogyny most women, including King, have experienced in a variety of careers and workplaces. Inspired by the #metoo movement, Rachel King decided to share her own stories & speak out against sexual harassment, unequal pay, and for women to no longer be dismissed and dehumanized as merely being pretty little dolls. Keep Walking Music deemed Dollhouse “worth obsessing over”, and the music video garnered over 100,000 views on Facebook in its first month.
Rachel’s debut EP “Reduce Me” touches on everything from grappling with faith & identity to new love & heartache. Available now on all major platforms to stream or purchase!
